Welcome,

Hi, we are The Langendoncks', aka Thedoncksonthego. Remke, Joost, Mijke and Elke and we have lived abroad for over 20 years, visiting many countries, people and cultures. The last 12 to 14 years, we have done this as a family of four and now it is our time to truly travel the world together, explore the unknown, learn in real life, trigger our curiosity and above all, dream big and dare to "fail". 

We are looking forward discovering and developing passions and we are curious what life on the road as a family will look like!

On this site, we will share travel stories of us Thedoncksonthego. This site is constantly changing as we learn about building a site, telling stories and taking photos & video's. So, enjoy exploring this page by scrolling down, watching video's, photo's, comb through the instagram feed and possibly sign up for our polar step map. Last but not least, we once in a while post a blog, go check it out!

Wildlife encounters - Uganda

This is a short compilation of various encounters we have had with wildlife in Uganda. We count ourselves lucky that we had the time to stay in each place for several days, allowing us to sit back and take in the beauty of nature, while allowing wildlife to come to us and force ourselves to sit, watch and admire. Many of these shots were a result of waiting and allowing nature to present itself. watching it brings back memories and put us in our happy place. We have hope that our experiences and footage might inspire others and share the belief that we need to support each other to see, understand, respect and protect the natural world around us.

Chimpanzee trekking - Uganda

Chimpanzee's and humans share 98.7% of their DNA! It was always something we were hoping we could experience, sharing a space in the forest, even if only for 1 hour, and observe the Chimps as a family and individuals. It was simply fun and mind-blowing to see them observe us instead. It felt very surreal to look an animal in the eye and know that they are wondering about you. I see, I think, I wonder. Nothing like any other animal encounter. Brilliant!

Mountain Gorillas, Bwindi NP - Uganda

A dream coming through! , It was one of the main initial goals when planning this world trip, seeing the mountain gorillas in Uganda. The experience is hard to explain and other than impressive, overwhelming and intense I am unsure what to say. Our eyes and ears recorded and our hearts and mind will remember.

Wild dogs are endangered and seeing them in the wild is a very special experience. After following them roaming and hunting, this pack enjoyed a rest under a tree.

Vultures cleaning a zebra after the black back jackals had enough. These vultures are quite vicious.

Shumba - Hwange NP

What a beautiful herd of elephants, and the surprise is at the back. The smallest and youngest calf we have seen, still a bit wobbly and very close to mum. The little one actually fell into the waterhole, needed support from a stressed herd and mum to get rescued and pulled out of the deep water! Our Rhumba camp is in the back!

Lions-moremi

This lion, together with his 3 brothers, killed and ate this buffalo. We missed the killing but watched them ripping this buffalo apart from the belly up. Some things never leave your memory, these images are added to that category, for us at least!

A tree full of vultures led the way to three dead elephants, lying around the waterhole of shipa pan, we found these 4 lions. Full bellies relaxing in the sun. Always amazing to see them, a privileged moment every time.

Baby elephants are beautiful and wonderful to watch. This little one is very small and very young still. We saw this mum and young calf at 1st bridge in Moremi, on our way to South gate.

INSTAGRAM FEED

We are new to Instagram though starting this site seemed a good moment to include photo's and video's that we share through our instagram posts. More photo's will be added to the blog posts.

As with the stories and video's, learning about photography is a goal throughout the year and all four of us will be adding flavor to the posts and photo's shared.

TRAVEL  STORIES

During our year of exploration, we will share travel stories with you about anything we experience on the road. Writing stories is a skill not easily mastered and we look forward learning as we progress throughout the year, in our ability to write authentically with wit, skill, imagination and passion.
